Synopsis

Linear B was the first Greek script. It was used on the island of Crete and the Greek mainland during the 2nd millennium BC. It was mostly recorded on clay tablets, first discovered in 1900 by Sir Arthur Evans. The script was deciphered in 1952 by Michael Ventris. The book is dedicated to the unresolved problem of the origin of Linear B, primarily to the questions of the place and the period of its creation, as well as to the source for the creation of this script.

Author Biography

Helena Tomas, Filozofski fakultet Sveučilišta u Zagrebu

Diplomu dvopredmetnoga studija arheologije i grčkoga jezika i književnosti stekla je 1997. godine na Filozofskom fakultetu u Zagrebu obranivši diplomski rad iz klasične arheologije (na temu nedešifriranog pisma linear A). 2003. godine doktorirala je na Sveučilištu u Oxfordu, Velika Britanija, s disertacijom Understanding the transition between Linear A and Linear B scripts (mentor: prof. dr. sc. John Bennet). Od 2004. godine predaje na Odsjeku za arheologiju Filozofskog fakulteta u Zagrebu, od 2018. godine u zvanju redovitog profesora. Od 2011-2015. g. bila je pročelnica Odsjeka za arheologiju. Od 2015. g. voditeljica je Poslijediplomskog doktorskog studija arheologije. Drži redovitu nastavu iz idućih kolegija: Osnove egejske arheologije, Egejska arheologija, Mikenska epigrafija, Mikensko društvo kroz linear B, Grčki jezik za arheologe I, Grčki jezik za arheologe II. Njeni istraživački interesi obuhvaćaju egejska brončanodobna pisma i administraciju, te povezanost Egeide, Balkana i središnje Europe tijekom brončanoga doba.
