About the Press
FF Open Press is a platform for open access books from the University of Zagreb Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The Faculty publishes around 30 book titles a year.
Through the FF Open Press, new releases will be made available in open access. Gradually, older editions, previously only available in print, will also be made available as open access e-books.
What does FF Open Press publish?
FF Open Press publishes monographs, edited volumes, conference proceedings and textbooks on various topics in social sciences and humanities.
Peer review process
All scholarly editions published by the Faculty undergo an independent peer review process, supervised and organised by the Publishing Council.
For monographs, reviewers are selected by the Publishing Council and the Subject Editors.
For edited volumes, reviewers are selected by the Subject Editor in agreement with the volume editor and the Publishing Council.
The papers in the conference proceedings undergo the review procedure predefined by the Subject Editors and the conference organizers, in agreement with the Publishing Council.
Open access
Books are published in open access, providing users with "unrestricted, free, and undisturbed online access to digital scientific information that allows scientific information to be read, stored, distributed, searched, reached, indexed and/or used in any other legal way" in accordance with the Croatian Declaration on Open Access.
Copyright and Usage Rights
All books in the FF Open Press are published under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0) that permits the use, copying and redistribution of the material in any medium or format, but only for non-commercial purposes. The user must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. The license does not allow the distribution of modified (remixed, transformed, or built upon) works.
Authors of the FF Open Press e-books are encouraged to deposit them in the repositories (subject or institutional), share them via social networks and distribute them in other ways to ensure their visibility and impact, but should always provide a link to the original publication in FF Open Press (preferably using the DOI persistent link).
New monograph submissions
The authors of the new manuscripts will sign a copyright transfer agreement with the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The Publishing Council will then, in agreement with the author, decide whether the book will be published in open access immediately, or after a certain time period.
Books published prior to 2019
For books published in print prior to 2019, and now published online in open access, authors retain exclusive copyright ownership but agree to make their books available under the Creative Commons CC-BY-NC-ND 4.0 license.
Edited books and conference proceedings
In edited volumes and conference proceedings, authors of individual papers/chapters retain copyright ownership, but upon submission, they sign a license to publish their work in open access under the Creative Commons CC-BY-NC-ND 4.0 license terms (License for Publishing in Open Access).
